Buildings with memories
A pair of square papercuts featuring meaningful places to this client: the historic Green-Wood Cemetery gate in New York and a family house in North Carolina. Each scene is surrounded by natural elements and local wildlife, reflecting personal connections to both locations.
.
I don’t remember how I found Whispering Paper, but her delicate paper cuts seemed like the perfect medium for bringing a little bit of Green-Wood with us. I asked her to make it look like something out of a fairy tale, and to incorporate New York flora and fauna. The trees framing it are red maple and pin oak. There are parakeets, squirrels, pigeons, rats and more nestled among the leaves.
I also got a companion piece of our vernacular Gothic house surrounded by NC flora and fauna. Naturally! I’m making this post because Marthe deserves a call out! The design process was so much fun. If you’re looking for a special piece of art, I can’t recommend her highly enough.
